Building a portfolio as Digital Marketers

Building a portfolio as Digital Marketers

The thought process involved in achieving the project for the week

Earlier this week, I and my teammates started the Sidehustle bootcamp program. It was quite an eventful and adventurous week as we were assigned our first task as Digital Marketers. The task was about drafting a digital marketing plan and a content calendar that will include 3 blog posts and 2 newsletters for July for a brand and we were given 3 options (Kuda, Safeboda and Cowrywise).

How were we able to achieve the task?

The first thing was to get the whole team together which was the first challenge as most of the team members were not used to the Slack workspace. Each member of the team was asked to make their research on the brands in order to choose the most unique brand we'll be working with for the project. A meeting was held to discuss our findings and sketch a framework that would guide our project. We had a vote on the brand selection and we also had discussion on how to get the work done. The team decided to work with Cowrywise. Each member of the team was designated to work on the various aspect of the task. Submission were made and compiled to make it comprehensive. The task helped to strengthen communication among teammates as each aspect are relative to each other.

Important tools that helped achieve the task

We made use of Google docs for writing and editing of the digital marketing plan and blogposts. Google sheets was also used to create the content calendar. Ahrefs keyword generator was used to for the SEO keywords used in the content calendar and blog posts. The newsletters were created using MailChimp and Canva for the Instagram carousels.

Challenges faced during the project

The task seemed quite easy at first but we faced some challenges along the line. The first time we faced a challenge was when we got to know that we were to write create actual articles and content included on the content calendar which wasn't included in our framework. It was quite draining but we had to complete the project. We had to split the contents amongst the Teammates. Another challenge was navigating some of the tools used during the course of the project. We had troubles using MailChimp majorly but a little bit of research and persistence paid off.

Our Strength as a team

The major factor that helped achieve this project was the cooperation and well coordinated behavior of the teammates. It really helped to boost effective communication and teamwork as well as the timely completion of the task.
